Apachetas: Stone Mandalas

In the Andean shamanic traditions, the mountain spirits are called apus. They are considered to be tutelary and protective allies. A little pile like this is called an apacheta. It marks an entrance into the energy meridians of the planet and beyond, and it’s also like a way for the stone people from all over the world to be in council together. It’s a circle in a square, which means something Hermetic or something. I made this one at Goosewing Beach in Little Compton, RI this afternoon and prayed for an end to suffering.
